Tomorrow is not promised

The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today. Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you.

The Happiest Man on Earth - Eddie Jaku

Tomorrow is not promised. Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you.

Eddie Jaku always considered himself a German first, a Jew second.

He was proud of his country. But all of that changed in November 1938, when he was beaten, arrested and taken to a concentration camp.

Over the next seven years, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors every day, first in Buchenwald, then in Auschwitz, then on a Nazi death march. He lost family, friends, his country.

Because he survived, Eddie made the vow to smile every day. He pays tribute to those who were lost by telling his story, sharing his wisdom and living his best possible life. He now believes he is the ‘happiest man on earth’.

Published as Eddie turns 100, this is a powerful, heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful memoir of how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times.

About the Author

Eddie Jaku OAM, was born Abraham Jakubowicz in Germany in 1920. In World War 2, Eddie was imprisoned in Buchenwald and Auschwitz concentration camps. In 1945, he was sent on a ‘death march’ but escaped.

Finally, he was rescued by Allied soldiers. In 1950 he moved with family to Australia where he has lived since.

Eddie has volunteered at the Sydney Jewish Museum since its inception in 1992. Edie has been married to Flore for 74 years. They have two sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 2020 Eddie celebrated his 100th birthday.

Never forget … time passes so quickly you don’t even notice until it begins to show.

“Tomorrow is promised to no one” so stated Clint Eastwood.

The quote acknowledging hope reigns eternal for tomorrow but live for today because guarantees are for kettles and toasters.

So … How about?

using the good china

going on safari

take a tour

travel indefinitely

eat the cake

take a year out

Journal it! Work out what you want to do and get scribbling.

We don’t take enough time for ourselves to really think about what we want.

Turn off the TV, sign out of Facebook and think about what it is you dream to do.

Wish it! Dream it! Do it!

OK moving on from wishing and dreaming.

Let’s do it.

And don’t plan to do it in 2020 and beyond, think how you can do it now.

Embrace the fear, chase your dreams and don’t put them off, or they’ll never become reality.

And then Covid arrived  … we had to put travel plans on hold!!  Out of a negative always comes a positive or two.

The world learned to slow down, grow a veggie garden, add feathered girls to the yard and sourdough starters popped up in kitchens and the sharing of cultures – left in driveways + happy hour Friday was replaced with home cooked meals and so much more.

Take a chance in life

It taught us that the future is unwritten and your future starts today not tomorrow so you should never put off to tomorrow what you can do today.

The Clint Eastwood quote “tomorrow is promised to no one” suggests you should live for today because you just never know what lies between you and waking up the next morning.

This isn’t any different for everyone on the planet.

People die every day but very few of us really live!!!

The important things are unappreciated or put off to a later date and replaced with conditioned lives the majority of people live.

As Eddie Jaku wrote in his amazing book …

“Kindness is the greatest wealth of all. Small acts of kindness last longer than a lifetime.”

“May you always have lots of love to share, lots of good health to spare, and lots of good friends who care.”

“Life is beautiful if you let it be. Happiness is in your hands.”

“Remember to be happy, and to make others happy too. Make yourself a friend to the world.”

“Never give up hope. It is never too late to be kind, polite, and a loving human being.”

Thank you Eddie for your willingness to share and for opening so many hearts with your message (including mine).
