Strolling through the garden with Venus, it’s Botticelli’s Primavera in full bloom!

Sandro Botticelli, a renowned artist in the Medici squad, was a master of lines and colours, with skills sharpened under Fra Filippo Lippi’s watchful eye. His masterpiece, “Primavera” (a.k.a. “Spring”), dazzles at the Uffizi Museum, though its true story is as mysterious as a locked treasure chest. Likely painted for Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco’s wedding bash in 1482, it features a celestial gathering in an orange grove, minus the usual Renaissance perspective magic. Instead, Botticelli went for elegance with long, slender limbs that twirled through Florence’s courtly demands.

In the center stage, Venus, the Roman goddess, strikes a pose, hinting at the Florentine love for all things classical. Cupid, her cheeky son, hovers above, ready to launch love missiles. Mercury, rocking winged sandals, is on winter-duty, shooing away clouds with his snazzy staff. Beside him, the Three Graces—Chastity, Beauty, and Love—dance away, pearls and lace adding a sprinkle of purity as Cupid sets his sights on them, nodding to matrimonial bliss.

On the right, Zephyrus, the west wind, sweeps away nymph Chloris, who blossoms into Flora, the Spring goddess, flinging flowers like confetti. This scene is a springtime symphony, hinting at marriage and new beginnings, with the orange grove nodding to the Medici family emblem. A wedding gift, the painting graced Lorenzo’s bedroom, where Cupid’s antics took on a romantic twist. Ultimately, Botticelli’s work is a canvas of humanist and classical love, wrapped in a bow of Renaissance splendour.

First up: glove etiquette 101! Just like tipping your hat indoors or mastering the black tie affair, glove rules exist too, but don’t sweat it! The opera glove is all about having a ball.

List of fun glove ‘dos and don’ts’?

So, where do these fancy gloves make their grand entrance? As the name suggests, they’re for your glitzy get-ups! They’re even more dazzling paired with a glass of bubbly. Traditionally, opera gloves were for swanky soirées—think cocktail parties, elegant dinners, balls, and glitzy awards. But hey, rules are meant to be bent! Thanks to style icons like Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Adele, and Beyoncé, opera gloves are getting a trendy update, proving anything goes!

Let’s get stylish! Opera gloves typically flaunt shades like white, ivory, beige, and taupe. Want to rock black gloves? Pair them with dark or bold outfits.

Feather-trimmed black gloves with a white dress?

Why not! Just a tip, know the classic rules. And yes, important rings or bracelets over gloves are a go—cue Marilyn Monroe in diamond-studded glory!

Now, for the nitty-gritty: the art of glove removal! Start at the fingertip and slide down gently.

To put them back on, reverse it, smoothing up from the wrist. Keep gloves on for meet-and-greets but take them off for dining (or smoking, naughty!).

Strictly speaking, gloves should come off for drinks to avoid spills. Once off, fold them and tuck under your napkin.

Mousquetaire gloves? Unbutton, slip out your hand, and leave the sleeve. Genius, right?

Remember, an opera glove isn’t just for the night; it’s a lifelong love affair. Now go enjoy those aperitifs with your fabulous gloves!
