Introduction to Nitric Oxide: Nitric oxide is a crucial molecule for health, impacting blood flow, oxygen delivery, and overall longevity. Imagine your body silently breaking down because of something as overlooked as nitric oxide deficiency. Dr Nathan Bryan’s work on nitric oxide is ground-breaking—making complex science accessible and life-changing.
Dark green leafy veggies create nitric oxide.
Caldwell Esselstyn, a well-known cardiologist has been talking about nitric oxide and the effects it has on the epithelial cells for decades! Dr Caldwell says spinach with balsamic for nitric oxide! He recommends steaming or boiling spinach for 5-6 minutes, adding a few drops of balsamic vinegar, and chewing very well.
There’s a bacteria in your gut (oxalobacter) that eats oxalates, if you have a healthy gut.
Addition dietary calcium binds to it rendering it out of the system, drinking more water can plummet oxalates activity, and the mere boiling can reduce oxalates in spinach by 50%. Oxalates is in all the foods that other primates eat, and an huge part of oxalate is produced by the body itself. So oxalates are not a problem for a healthy individual. That being said, if you have an ongoing problem with kidney stones, it is wise to avoid high oxalate foods like spinach.
Nitric Oxide Deficiency: The loss of nitric oxide production is linked to age-related chronic diseases such as erectile dysfunction, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
* Symptoms of Deficiency: Erectile dysfunction is often the first sign, followed by increased blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues.
* Dr Bryan’s Eureka Moment: Inspired by a Nobel Prize lecture and his father’s non-healing wounds, Dr Bryan dedicated his career to researching nitric oxide.
* How Nitric Oxide Works: It dilates blood vessels, allowing for better blood flow and oxygen delivery
* Aging and Nitric Oxide: Nitric oxide levels decline with age, starting around 30, but this decline can be influenced by lifestyle.
* Chronic Diseases: Nitric oxide deficiency is associated with erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure, metabolic disease, exercise intolerance and Alzheimer’s.
* Traditional Medicine: Dr Bryan expresses concern about the for-profit nature of medicine, suggesting it may not prioritize cures.
* Longevity: Nitric oxide is crucial for longevity because it helps mobilize stem cells, prevents telomere shortening, and improves mitochondrial function.
* Oral Microbiome: The oral microbiome plays a significant role in nitric oxide production.
Antiseptic mouthwashes can disrupt this process, leading to increased blood pressure.
Many people with blood cancers have/had an active dental infection.
* Improving Oral Microbiome: Avoid fluoride toothpaste and antiseptic mouthwash. Tongue scraping can be beneficial, but should not be combined with antiseptic mouthwash.
Natural toothpaste: Coconut Oil Baking Soda dash of fresh Stevia to offset salt flavour from baking soda
* Food and Nitric Oxide: Avoid sugar and high-glycaemic index foods. A balanced diet with good protein and fats is recommended.
* Beetroots: Beetroots can enhance athletic performance due to their ability to improve nitric oxide production. Fermented beets and Beet Kvass are low in oxalates, where beets themselves are high in oxalates. Both improve nitric oxide production.

* Antacids: Dr Bryan advises against long-term use of antacids as they inhibit stomach acid production, which is necessary for nutrient absorption.
Breathing: Nasal breathing activates nitric oxide production, improving oxygen uptake and lowering blood pressure.
Nasal breathing is one of the fastest and most direct ways to deliver NO into the lungs — and it’s often overlooked in mainstream discussions.
It’s not just diet and gut biome—it’s also about breath mechanics, nitric oxide synthase activity, and how we engage with our own physiology.
Breathing through your nose (not mouth) delivers NO-rich air from the paranasal sinuses directly into your lungs. This NO: Dilates airways Increases oxygen uptake in the lungs Improves blood flow in the pulmonary system Acts as an antimicrobial agent in the nasal passages Mouth breathing bypasses this entire system. This discovery was part of what earned researchers the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (Murad, Furchgott, and Ignarro) for uncovering NO’s critical role in cardiovascular signalling.
Humming: Certain frequencies of humming can also stimulate nitric oxide production. Humming creates vibrations in the vocal cords and throat muscles, which are connected to the vagus nerve.
These vibrations stimulate the vagus nerve, a key part of the parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for the “rest and digest” response).
- Choose a comfortable sound: Experiment with different humming sounds, such as “mmm” or a “hum” sound.
- Focus on the vibrations: Pay attention to the vibrations in your throat and chest as you hum.
- Combine with deep breathing: Take a deep breath in and hum slowly as you exhale, extending the exhalation to help calm your nervous system.
- Practice regularly: Incorporate humming into your daily routine, such as while showering, cooking, or working.
- Listen to music: If you enjoy singing or listening to music, humming along can also stimulate the vagus nerve.
* Sunlight: Exposure to sunlight can stimulate nitric oxide release.
Future of Medicine: Dr Bryan believes the future of medicine and healthcare will depend on nitric oxide product technology.
* In Conclusion: Focus on lifestyle changes, including diet, exercise, and avoiding harmful products, to maintain healthy nitric oxide levels.
I like the perspective shared by Dr Bryan of a CEO of a pharmaceutical company who, out of frustration and disgust with the industry, resigned from his job, when he said “there is no such thing as side effects, there are just a list of effects and some of them are marketable”.
The medical industry is a machine for profit, they are good at emergency situations, keeping you alive so you can heal, they are terrible at life style management and quality of life.
Speed & Greed has become the most horrible epidemic in our World to date.
It’s truly heart-breaking.

• “Leaky gut” means instead of foods being broken down, absorbed, and eliminated, partially digested foods can cross through the damaged area of the intestinal lining and enter the bloodstream directly.
• Healing and sealing the gut lining will allow your body to build a strong immune system and produce the right number of neurotransmitters for the best ‘gut feeling’ … to be well again.
