Let’s dive into the cosmic world of birth signs! Virgo…

It’s my birthday month (September) ! ???? Let’s chat about birth signs.

Do you think your birth date can dictate your destiny and personality quirks?

I’m not saying it’s my idea—I scoured the web for this info.

Personally, I think how you’re raised plays a bigger role in shaping who you are.

Astrologers, though, claim zodiac signs are key to personality.

Pisces, they say, are loving; Sagittariuses are free spirits; Tauruses are loyal (and a bit wild, according to Beyoncé).

These are just theories—how would you test them scientifically?

Well, that’s exactly what MIT’s Jackson Lu and his team did. They surveyed 173,709 people, matching zodiac signs with scores on the Big Five personality traits.

Drumroll, please… they found zero correlation. That’s right—zilch! Knowing your zodiac sign doesn’t reveal your personality.

Take agreeableness. On a 1-7 scale, how friendly are you?

If you think Libras are peace-loving, you’d expect them to score around 6. Scorpios, being the spicy ones, might get a 2. But nope! Scorpios averaged 5.61, and Libras 5.63. All signs were equally agreeable.

The same went for other traits—conscientiousness, emotional stability, extraversion, openness.

No statistical variance by sign!

Then there’s the Chinese zodiac.

It’s lunar-based, with a 12-year cycle of animal symbols. It shapes beliefs and decisions in Chinese culture. Some prefer to have kids in “lucky” animal years for prosperity.

I’m a proud Dog in the Chinese zodiac, and they say we’re the loyalty champions, honest to a fault, and as dependable as your favourite pair of slippers. We bark for justice, put others first, and are the compassionate pals you want by your side. But watch out—sometimes we can be as stubborn as a mule, a bit critical, or even decide to take a solo stroll.

Is astrology just random? How can celestial positions at birth have lifelong effects?

Spoiler: DNA, not stars, holds the key to our personalities. Studies show major traits are about 50% heritable. Genes and life experiences shape who we are, not the sky. Zodiac signs are stereotypes, differing by country. In the U.S., Cancer and Scorpio get a bad rap, while in China, Virgos are seen as prickly due to a translation hiccup. This can lead to real discrimination—like job and dating biases based on signs.

Even parents in China may invest less in kids born under “unlucky” signs, affecting their education and test scores. It’s time to kick the astrology habit. Judging people by their signs is as silly as judging them by fingerprint or blood type. Astrology can mislead those lacking critical thinking, offering false certainty. It’s like Marx’s “opiate of the masses,” but unlike unverifiable religion, astrology has been debunked.

Here’s the scoop on my birth sign, Virgo—turns out, it’s not too shabby, lol!

What’s your take on zodiac signs?

Personally, I think folks get a tad carried away, especially in the dating scene. I dipped my toes into the online dating pool briefly, and it was wild how many guys went, “Oh no, a Virgo? Sorry, too much perfectionism for me!”

Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22)

Sturdy, reliable and honest, Virgo is the most trustworthy zodiac sign of the bunch. Their detail-oriented minds make them sticklers for punctuality, as well as great keepers of secrets and promises.

“Virgo’s ability to be attentive to detail isn’t just about what they are noticing in you—it’s about self-awareness as well,” Shah says. “They are aware of the reasons being trustable matters to them, and they see the value of promises they might make. By understanding the nuances of what they’ve said, they are likely to not give themselves excuses to break those promises.”

Since they remember almost everything you tell them and are honest almost to a fault, they are also excellent advice-givers. “They’re very thoughtful,” Terrones says. “They’re always going to tell you the truth. Sometimes those truths can be a little harsh, but they’re really just trying to help you. They don’t feel like the opposite would benefit you in the long run. They want you to improve.”

And Virgos aren’t just good friends—their attention to detail is their greatest zodiac career strength, which makes them trustworthy co-workers as well, and perhaps the most respected zodiac sign.

Virgos are the style icons of the zodiac runway, exuding a vibe of effortless chic. They’re like the ultimate adulting pros—graceful, dependable, and always looking like they just stepped out of a magazine. As earth signs, they’re the embodiment of stability and practicality, but with their mutable flair, Virgos are also the Swiss Army knives of the zodiac, adaptable and chatter-savvy.

Mercury, the planet of gab, rules Virgo, which makes them the wordsmiths of the zodiac. According to Nicole, they prefer truth bombs over mushy confessions. Picture them like the zodiac’s grammar police, armed with a dictionary and a mission for precision.

Their celestial mascot? The maiden, sometimes dubbed the virgin—she’s all about purity and lending a helping hand. Virgos are on a quest for the flawless finish, keeping things spick and span. “They’re the Hermione Grangers of the zodiac,” says Nicole. “Hardworking, detail-obsessed, and ever-so-helpful—it’s no wonder you’ll find a bunch of them donning doctor or lawyer hats.”

While Virgos are the poster children for practicality and reliability, in love, they often fancy a partner who’s their polar opposite. Their nurturing nature means they’re drawn to those who are spiritual, emotional, or artsy—or someone who’s in dire need of a Zodiac knight in shining armour.

At heart, Virgos are the caretakers of the cosmos. “They crave feeling indispensable,” explains Thomas. They revel in being the go-to problem solvers and loyal allies, aiming to be the bedrock in others’ lives.

Wondering who clicks with Virgo? Thomas spills the astrological tea: Virgos vibe best with fellow earthlings like Taurus and Capricorn, and water signs like Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Earth signs speak the same language, while water signs bring a splash of emotions and nurturing, balancing out Virgo’s practical nature in a cosmic dance of yin and yang.
