A heartfelt thank you to everyone who reached out with messages and calls regarding our well-being during Townsville’s current rain event. I truly feel the love and am incredibly grateful.
We are managing well, although we did have a little incident with a large fig tree that the tree loppers have been removing bit by bit. A few hefty dead branches came crashing down, and would you believe it—a snake must have been disturbed! It seemed to want to come inside for some dry shelter, but by the time I went to get help, it had already moved on. Our big ginger cat, Simba, was quite curious about it, but thankfully the glass sliding door was shut.

During our last major flood in 2019, our problem was that the dam was overfull, and it was released all at once, causing quite a mess. This time, however, they are slowly opening the gates. The pictures show Aplins Weir on the Ross River, just behind our home, where the dam water flows along with the rainwater cascading from above. The photo of me holding onto the rail is from the bridge.
Welcome to the wild social scene of Nth Qld during Splashdown & Flood Fiesta! We hop into our trusty boats and paddle our way to the pub for a splash-tastic community bash, complete with a few frosty cold ones on a delightfully soggy day!
Cheers to the good times! Sad for the beautiful Harley!
