Coconut Vinegar + Shrubs (Drinking Vinegar) + Beauty Products
Coconut vinegar
4 large green coconuts / 1 liter organic coconut water
1/4 cup un-refined sugar ( think; rapadura)
1 Tablespoon Vinegar mother (think; apple cider vinegar with the mother)
Place coconut water and sugar in a glass container, cover lightly and place out of sunlight, until liquid has turned to alcohol (approx. 1 week)
After turning to alcohol, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar mother and leave container out of sunlight and undisturbed for 1 – 4 months.
Drinking vinegar or Shrubs
Start with any seasonal fruit – something ripe and organic that can give off juice.
Think … strawberries. Raw vinegar – coconut vinegar is more subtle than cider vinegar.
The rule is it must have its ‘mother’ as that is the key to this form of fermenting.
Add flavorings – ginger, fresh mint, lavender, basil or savory herbs or hot chili. Sugar to provide the sweet to team with the sour of the vinegar and to create a syrupy texture.
Orange Ginger Shrub … cocktails, glaze – especially seafood or teamed with olive oil in salad dressings.
Coconut Vinegar Beauty .… hair conditioner: 1 tablespoon coconut vinegar to 1 cup hot water + 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Deodorant: 1 part vinegar+ 1 part lemon juice, add essential oil like tea tree or straight vinegar and essential oil for spray bottle or can add cornflower or arrowroot + a layer of coconut oil.
Face Wash / scrub: Cotton ball soaked with vinegar and bi-carb
Foot soak: 1/2 cup vinegar + 1/2 cup Epsom salts and essential oil of choice (lavender)
Relax: Add 1/2 cup coconut vinegar to bath water and relax with a double bonus – will keep the bath clean and the mold away.
